Masterclass structure

This Masterclass combines a live, interactive group session with optionally one or two personalized 1-on-1 mentoring sessions. Both components are delivered via Zoom.

3-hour live Masterclass
The instructor will demonstrate how to create a short film from scratch - no pre-recorded content or pre-generated data. As in every production, things may not go as planned, and every mistake or unexpected result becomes a learning opportunity. Participants can ask questions throughout, and the instructor will strive to cover as much as possible in the allocated time. The session is intense and packed with information, so we strongly recommend getting a good night's rest beforehand. There will be a 15-minute break halfway through the session.

About your instructor

Hello, Bonjour, Kia ora,

I’m a French New Zealander living in Canada. I’m the former Head of Effects at Wētā FX and Houdini teacher at Fx Machina. I hold six AWS certifications, including Machine Learning Engineer and Machine Learning Specialty. I have worked on over 30 projects for the TV and movie industry since the early 2000s, including the Avatar series, Games of Thrones, and Terminator (see my IMDB profile). I’ve empowered many artists going from XSI/Maya to Houdini. Today, I'm enabling the AI transition.

What level of experience is required?

Our Masterclass is designed for everyone from beginners to experienced professionals. Basic familiarity with VFX concepts will be beneficial, but no prior AI or coding experience is necessary. We’ll start from the basics and build toward advanced workflows.

What about concerns regarding closed-source models, deepfakes, and copyright?

Our approach is ethically driven and focuses on open-source AI tools, minimizing concerns around closed-source limitations and promoting responsible AI practices. We discuss copyright and ethical considerations in detail during the Masterclass.

How is the course content kept up-to-date?

How long is the course?

The course includes a 3-hour live group session and one or two 45-minute 1-on-1 mentoring sessions, depending on your package.

Do you offer a certificate of completion?

Yes, participants will receive a certificate of completion after attending the Masterclass, recognizing their new skills in AI for VFX.

What equipment do I need to attend?

All you need is a stable internet connection and a device capable of running Zoom for the live session. Specific software installations are not required for the Masterclass itself.

Do I need to install any software before the class?

No. We will cover every tool and setup requirement during the Masterclass. The demonstrations will be done on Linux but we will explain how to do the same on Windows and Mac.

Will I be practicing during the Masterclass?

Three hours go by quickly. To ensure we cover everything, we encourage you to focus on the live session and ask questions during interactive Q&A segments. You will receive the course materials and example scenes afterward to practice on your own time. The 1-on-1 mentoring session will then provide an opportunity for practical questions and dedicated guidance.

What equipment do I need to use generative models on my local workstation?

While optimizations exist for lower-spec machines, we recommend an NVIDIA GPU with at least 16GB of VRAM.

Will I have access to session recordings?

Yes, all sessions are recorded and made available to participants so you can review the content at your own pace and revisit key learnings.

What if I miss part of the live session?

Don’t worry - every session is recorded. You can catch up on any missed content and still fully benefit from the Masterclass.

Will the Masterclass be taught in multiple languages?

The group session is conducted in English to accommodate a global audience. However, 1-on-1 mentoring sessions are available in both French and English to provide personalized support.
